Hi,
does anyone know anything about Alfred Meakin pottery?
I bought this today at a car boot sale and was told it was Meakin from about 1950. I've tried searching but this doesn't look like anything in the search results. The only thing I found that looked anything like it was said to be Czeckoslovak and the colours were very pale, not like this at all apart from the camels and palm trees!
I don't know anything much about pottery, I'm more into Art Deco and glass but bought this because I liked the colours. If it's real have got a bargain? I paid £3 for it. The glaze is a bit scratched on the angles but it doesn't have any cracks or chips. The only mark on the base is "2266" but that might be paint or even felt-tip for all I know.
If it is Meakin would it have been part of a functional tea set or would it have been made as an ornament?
Any info most gratefully received.
Thanks.
