Thread: PayPal and Heartbleed

  1. #1

    Default PayPal and Heartbleed

Anyone else get an email from PayPal (it's doubtful, I think) about account being restricted because of Heartbleed?

The email I got looks like a phishing attempt. I didn't click on the link that was included. (Email said if I filled out a form, the situation would be set right.)

I closed the email and went to PayPal and everything looks like it usually does.

Yes I got one this morning & immediately sent it to spoof@paypal.com who responded with a Thank You email immediately. Then I deleted it from my computer.

Unless the e-mail has your full name on it, it's phishing- I get 2 or 3 a week, Paypal and others- always check the senders address as well.

I've never had one from PayPal before. My name was not on it. It was addressed to 'dear customer'. The senders address was suspicious too. The subject was a big "Warning, your account has been restricted" .. all in caps and looking like it's trying hard to alarm the recipient.

    Humph!!

I feel ignored and unappreciated - I have not received one of these messages.

Although I have received confirmation of 2 orders from the Itunes shop, which is strange as I do not have an account with them. I have had a look at their site and can't locate an email address to report malicious spam, wondering do any of you know where I should send a message to please?

Maybe it is just me, but I do not understand all the panic about heartbleed. From what i have read the incursion took place 2 years ago; surely any damage that would have been done has already happened. Why would someone do that and then wait 2 years to use the info.

    Thanks.

    To lofty100e
There are no known `incursions` in the last 2 years (at least not publicised), the hole in the security system was opened two years ago with an upgrade to SSL (Secure Security Layer), who knows who noticed it and used it in the last 2 years. Advice is to change any passwords you have (something that needs to be done regularly to stay safe)
