Illegal marketplace vanishes - with $100m

Some of you might have heard of these illegal marketplaces, if not they are virtually untraceable ways of buying anything from drugs and guns to hiring hitmen. A major site 'The Silk Road' was shut down a while back and a replacement sprang up the 'Sheep Marketplace'. Well it appears that it might have been a scam and they have done a runner with about $100 million in Bitcoins which are untraceable.

Now despite the fact that this could be one of the biggest robberies ever I cannot help but smile at the fact that all those drug dealers and other dodgy characters are out of pocket. What would be even better is if the government had actually set it up, but I don't credit them with that kind of intelligence. Besides if it were the UK government they would get taken to court and have to return it if they had.

It's the sort of scam that will see people getting killed if the criminals find out who scammed them.

The question is whether that is a bad thing?

For some strange reason this makes me think of the moving crap game in Guys & Dolls. Chalk it up to hormones I guess...

Looks like online is the way for crooks to really hit the big time, and in both cases due to the nature of the crimes they are virtually untraceable and could be impossible to get a prosecution on.
