Yes, that is true. Not everyone has pierced ears. In addition to the clip style I have some screwback ones around here. Some old ones that belonged to my dear mother.

I did have pierced ears. But not having worn earrings for about 15 years I reckon they'll have closed up. I would not however, wear earrings that someone else had worn. Not even my daughters

I must say I do not have pierced ears so for me it isnt a problem, but I would disinfect even new earrings I bought, if I did have my ears pierced and wear those kind of earrings ecver in the future.
Clip-ons are ever so handy for theatre and costume because not everyone has, or wants, pierced ears and the cleanliness issue is much easier to cope with.
Some jewellers will not take back pierced earrings for supposed hygienic reasons although that being said I have seen second hand ones for sale in second hand jewellery shops. I think it is up to the individual whether you buy or sell. They would have to take them back if they were faulty.
you can clean them with an ultrasonic cleaner and steam them off..i cleaen jewelery everyday.i am a jeweler and the solution to use is 1 part sudsey amonia ans 1 part liquid detergent and 2 parts water.i am into disinfectant that you can order from ear peircing co`s or jewelery supply houses.if you clean jewelery you wont have any trouble.i had a fine jewelery store for over 18 years and have been a jeweler for over 30 years and no one has gotten an ear infection from anything i worked on.ever.so just clean them.if you have any questions please ask.ok.
I don't like wearing pre-used earrings.
