On start up i have a choice screen come up for about 10 seconds if i ignore it i go to Windows i have to highlight Ubuntu for it to boot to it.I mean i will keep windows on all the time it works but i would not buy a new one.Would then use Ubuntu only.

I don't get a choice screen...windows starts up righ away

There was more then one Ubuntu to download .i downloaded the windows version so i could run it side by side.Finding my way round it now.Had 137 updates.Took 15 seconds.Have firefox and Chrome on it at the moment and i can use at will.It found all my hardware and all work without me using a install disc.Love the Office and i have downloaded some free templates.Configured the firewall as well.Will try the media player,burn disc and photo thing later.All look easy to use so far.Found out i was lucky to get a direct download of Ubuntu as most people have to down load to disc then run the disc.

I thought I had downloaded the same one you did...to run alongside windows but I had to use a disc with mine.

I might have another go when I am not too frazzled regarding bounced direct debits
