    Post Domain Names (UK specific)

There's been various discussions on the forum about domain names and whether a .net is less preferable to a .com for whatever reasons which seemed to boil down to trust or a lack of. Well, I noticed the other night after an attack of careless fingers that www.ebid.co.uk also works and redirects to www.ebid.net - however, storename.ebid.co.uk doesn't work.

Given that .co.uk usage is common in the UK, would it be worthwhile setting things up so that storename.co.uk does work, then the .co.uk could be used by sellers in their efforts to advertise and promote eBid. I would assume (perhaps wrongly) that a redirect of all x.ebid.co.uk addresses to x.ebid.net shouldn't be impossible

    Just a thought.

If anyone is interested, it seems that you can actually advertise your store using a .co.uk

www.ebid.co.uk/stores/yourstorename seems to work quite sucessfully.

With thanks to bluebedouin for inadvertently pointing me in the direction of an answer via his business card generator signature link.

One more minor concern dealt with.

I use a .co.uk domain that I purchased myself (5.99 for 2 years) and simply direct my main listings page to that domain so if someone types it in they get the 1st page of listings.

I've got my own domains too although they tend to point at my own eCommerce site, but every now and again I feel generous and like to advertise eBid itself. And for some reason, I'd much rather promote a .co.uk address rather than a .net address.

Perhaps it's my own background, where I just don't associate .net with commerce type websites. I've always associated them with things like service providers, infrastructure hosts and general networking rather than shops and businesses and common websites.

I guess in my own head I think there's more familiarity with .co.uk in the UK and perhaps more likelyhood of someone remembering it and visiting.
