I have several regular Portuguese customers and have never had any problems - but my items aren't breakable. You may want to ask your customer how to right, "fragile, handle with care" in Portuguese, so that you can put that in English and Portuguese on the package.

I sell a bit to Portugal but always send International Signed for Delivery overseas now as had problems with Royal Mail in past, well worth the extra £3.70 (or is it £3.50). Anyway then you are ins. for £39 and can add on the value for a little extra.

Isn't that OK though if the collection wasn't advertised on bay?

I am pretty sure you won't be covered for damage for glass items (whichever country you are posting to), though you should be covered for loss.

If anyone can clarify this, I would be pleased to know if any carrier will cover for glass breakage.
