I think if it's more economical to send it airmail it gets bundled in. I imagine it's all down to freight levels, demand for services etc.

Is "Disney Funship" a new name for all those ships loaded with containers that enter & leave our ports daily?

I had an item reach Shanghai in 3 days though I had paid for surface mail. I can assure you that some items DO go by ship (4 months to reach Delhi is my record) but, if there is space in the air freight containers that have been paid for, your surface items may take wings.

I use Surface Mail quite a bit for packets to the US - and quite often they go by Air

I suppose it depends on the dipstick who's sorting the mail at Mount Pleasant International Mail Centre in North London as to which mail sack they go in

Think yourself luck Raindropsies I've had things in the past that have been sent by surface that arrived looking like they have been dropped in the harbour and put through a wringer ! One of my customers sent me a photo once as she was so amazed that the china had survived inside !

It could have gone by air. Loaded on the wrong truck..etc. Nothing surprises me anymore.
