Smile Show Similar items from other sellers

On the other auction site when you click on a item it also shows you similar items from other sellers and i have purchased many items this way.
it would be good to have this on here not just to show other sellers items but to manoeuvre new potential buyers around the site.
Just an idea but it works on the other auction site.

You can try asking, but we have been asking for a sales total rather than a feedback total for a few years now as people don't tend to leave feedback and still nothing happens, so don't hold your breath.

And I've asked several times that the site starts showing the buying public that it does have more than three sub-categories in Glass and that moreover there are items for sale in them. Instead of chucking them all together in Glassware.

I've seen these supposedly "similar" item ads. on that site, splattered on my ad. for a gorgeous 1930s Art Deco Glass vase the algorythm has decided that "similar items" include a cheap set of oriental 'glass' beads. A modern 'Art Deco' style light fitting and some metal candle-holders that the seller wrongly identified as being made in the '1930s' (My single parenthesis to illustrate how vague the alleged similarity can be) The latest "improvement" over there is to slice my ad. to pieces with numerous bands of Promoted Listings (i.e pay extra FVF for visibility)

I needn't tell you what I think of this idea, I'll let my sales figures do it for me. 9 items sold on ebid since 1/1/2023; 1 item sold on the other site. I will explain why. Buyers can find my items here, the search is intuitive, key word oriented, excellent and not manipulated to make the site more in fees. Buyers are sick of having the other site decide what it was that they really meant to type in the search box and increasingly coming here to find what they are looking for with some certainty of finding it.

I'm sorry to be so against the OPs suggestion, but it gets a "thumbs down" from me.

You only have 3 items on ebay so i am not surprised you have only sold 1 item this year to be honest its not a bad turnaround.
If you put the 321 listings you have on here on ebay you would have probably sold a lot more than 9.

The algorithms for "similar items" are so bad that I don't like this idea either.

The similar algorithm on eBay works on highest Promoted listing % first, so that why you see some totally not similar items

You can ask but many have asked for other things and most have stopped asking

On the face of it, what you say looks logical and sound advice. But believe me the situation of having 300 glass items on here (about 295 RUS + about 5 auctions) has only arisen from several years of experience doing the same things on both sites (not the RUS part.)

When I started to build my listing numbers here, I first listed them as auctions on obay, only if they didn't sell over there did they get listed here, again as auctions. If they didn't sell at auction here, (invariably they didn't) I then listed them RUS. Basically, so I didn't loose all the description details for future re-lists on either site.

Over time my sales over there declined, even though they got "first dibs" on new items and often re-running auction unsolds as BIN listings for a month or two.

At the same time and my listing numbers here grew, I began to get regular sales here. At some point I decided to give ebid priority and started listing new items here first, then RUS/GTC on both sites. So this and previous years, both sites will have had an equal number of auction listings each, with most unsold items changed to BINs at some point. The only reason I let my RUS listings build-up here and not over there is because here they are all still as visible as the day I first listed them . On the other site, they make no secret of the fact that items that don't sell after an automatic GTC re-list or two are demoted in the visibility sweepstakes and made progressively less visible with each further re-list. So by now most of them would be next to invisible and very unlikely to sell. Unless I have the time to re-list at monthly intervals to make them "New" again. That isn't necessary here because the site doesn't play visibility games.

You might think that putting all 200 listings on obay will see my sales there increase. I doubt it very much as I've tried allowing them to build-up a couple of times, even doing the necessary re-lists in a spasmodic way. It made no difference what-so-ever, I was still allowed about one sale each month. Whether I had 2 listings or 20(or so). That's why in the whole of 2022 I sold 17 items here and 13 on obay. This year it looks like the gap might be even wider by years-end.

    Hi Mark,

We do show a few other listings from the seller in question on the item details page.

There is also the button "FOR SALE" that will take the buyer to a full list of items for sale from that seller.

    Thanks,
    Gazza
