I had a red chenille tunic - got a hole in it which I just couldn't repair - ripped it all down - I knitted much of it (all into stockings) before last Christmas and they were sold either for the local Cats Protection branch (Nationally, it's the largest UK cat rescue) or for a small development charity which works in The Gambia. They've sold very well - the typical purchase being "one for each grandchild" I understand.

The little bits left over will become Poppies for a Remembrance Day display

What a perfect way to recycle some clothing.

I have a couple of scarves that I picked up during a bag day (all you can fit in a bag for $3) thrift shop because of the style of yarn. You just couldn't pick up yarn for that kind of price. I unraveled the knitted scarves and reused the yarn for my project.

A handy tip I picked up for those annoying yarn ends when changing wool: Place your knitting onto a piece of foam, and, using a barbed felting needle, stab the trailing the ends into your work until felted. This method results in a strong, invisible join.

Thank you for that tip! Won't work on the chenille but I've some other red yarn in small bits which I will try it on.

The very bulky wool I used for OH's scarf was almost impossible to thread through a needle. Felting method worked really well.
