Default Adding Storage to an Android HELP!!

So....Billy has a cheapo Android and ran out of internal memory.

He added a memory card to it which the phone recognises is there only when we check the storage we still get the 'storage used up' message.

Now he can't send or receive any messages (SMS)

He has Tesco Mobile rocket packs only when I have tried switching to using the card memory we still get told he has no storage left.

    Am I missing something.?

It's likely that the phone does not recognise the card memory as part of the total memory but as a separate storage entity. Thus if your phone's internal memory was full before you inserted the card then it will still be full after inserting it.

If that's the case you can offload stuff to the memory card by moving things like music and picture files over to it.

Depending on the phone you can also possibly move some applications over to the card (some may not be moveable if the developer decided they need the speed of internal memory or are preinstalled on the phone) or tell individual apps to use the card for its storage needs.

To do that (actual route/wording may vary by phone) select:

Settings > Applications > Applications Manager

Select each app in turn and click on Storage.

On the displayed screen should be the option to select which memory, internal/external, to use if the app allows.

    You're welcome.

Some apps may also allow storage selection within their in app settings options. For example, my camera app settings have the option to save images taken directly to the card rather than internal memory. Videos and multi-shots still go to internal memory due to speed requirements - but can be moved across to the card afterwards.

One other way of freeing up space is to transfer the photos to somewhere like photoshop or a computer or external hard-drive. People do not realise it but photos take up a lot of space very quickly.

The phone recognises the memory we have added but none of the apps have the option of moving data across to the external storage.

This means Billy can'r send or receive messages.

Makes mw wonder what we spent the extra £20 on since this was supposed to add storage.

Your should still be able to move stuff like photos and music to the storage card using the phone's File Manager app. As long as the phone is recognising the card as storage they will still be found by their respective parent apps.

What make and model of phone is it? Knowing that may be useful.

Can you get into a phone shop and ask their advice? Hands on they can see better what is possible.
