"Seventy 'sevens' are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up the vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy." (Daniel 9:24 NIV)

Some hold the position that the first three purposes were fulfilled at the first coming of Jesus Christ.

Some hold the position that the last three purposes will be fulfilled at the second coming of Jesus Christ. This event will occur at the end of the age.

The final Jubilee will begin on the Day of Atonement in the fall of 2015. There will have been 40 complete Jubilee cycles following Christ’s death. Isn’t that interesting? There are so many 40’s in the Bible and 40 is a significant number to God. The 40 Jubilees after Christ’s death bring us to the end ofprobationary time. After the middle of 2016 there will be no more opportunities for people to repent and receive eternal life.

It is interesting to me that Daniel received insight into the "Seventy sevens" while in his daily Bible study devotional. He was studying the prophesy of Jeremiah that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years. (Daniel 9:1-2) Daniel prayed a prayer that reached the very throne of God.

Daniel's prayer was saturated with humility (v.3), worship (v. 4), confession (vv. 5-15), and petition (vv. 16-19). Although Daniel's lifestyle was one of spiritual excellence, he repented alongside his people as if he had personally committed sins against God. He did not start his prayer with a request (petition), but entered God's presence in humility, worship, and repentance.

The Scriptures provide instruction on gaining access to God. We are to...."Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name." (Psalm 100:4) Daniel's prayer was not selfish, but God was asked to hear his prayer, to see the desolation of the temple, to listen and forgive, for his Name's sake. The central concern of Daniel's prayer was God's reputation. (see Daniel 9:17-19)

As Daniel was speaking and praying, confessing his sins and the sins of his people....Gabriel the arch angel appeared to him. (Daniel 9:20-23) Gabriel was sent to Daniel to give him insight and understanding concerning the "Seventy 'sevens' " The message and vision that was to be explained is in Daniel 9:24. (see post #13)

The 70th week is a seven year period of time, that is held to be the last seven years of the age. Are we close to the last seven years of the end of the age? Have we entered the 70th year? If yes, why? If no, why?

It has been two years since this question was asked. Never received a specific answer to the question (yes or no); or why the answer was chosen.

Is it a question that should not be asked? (Explain)

Personally I think it is a question that can and should be asked. The 70th Week is addressed in scripture by Jeremiah the prophet (Jeremiah 25:11-12) and (Daniel 9:1-27). Jesus addressed signs of the end of the age (end times) [Matthew 24]. No specific date was given, but signs were given describing the period of time, that are the last seven years of the age (end times). Daniel also addresses "end times". (see Daniel 12) The Book of Revelation also addresses the 70th Week, or last 7 years of the end of the age. It speaks of 42 months or 3.5 years, as a mid-point of the 70th Seven. (see Revelation 11:2; 13:5)

Is there a concise, clear answer to the question? (Explain)

Personally I do not think there is an easy answer to the question, although there are very complex calculations available that relate to the 70th Week. The most concise information (answers) are available from the Bible; and from those given insight from the Holy Spirit or an angelic visitation. Daniel had such a visitation and was given insight into the "70 Sevens" and "the 70th Week". (Daniel 9:20-27) Daniel also had received understanding through scripture of Jeremiah's prophesy of the "70 Sevens" and "one seven" , aka 70th Week; and then followed his scriptural insight by fervent prayer; before his angelic visitation from the arch angel Gabriel.
