Thread: British Virgin Islands stamps on thin paper

  1. #1

Default British Virgin Islands stamps on thin paper

Are there any experts on BVI stamps out there? If so, can you confirm whether early BVI stamps (1867 to 1889) were printed on very thin paper?

Reason I ask is that I have an item that is printed on very thin paper, and it looks as if it has perforations although on three sides the perforations have not been separated from the surrounding paper. In fact, it looks as if the perforations on three sides would be difficult to separate from the surrounding paper, giving the impression that it could be a cut-out from pre-stamped postal stationery (if they were about in those days). However, the bottom edge has been separated from the surrounding margin, indicating it is a stamp rather than a cut-out. There is a pencil inscription on the back that I cannot properly read - it looks on the lines of "[something] BS paper". The writer has also written 70/- on the back of the stamp.

thanks and regards to all who are interested in these forums.

    Ray
