Default Just a heads up everybody! :)

    They're off again - soonish.

Yes, get strapped in for another virtual travel saga with Bro & Sil (sis in law)

Leaving in February 2014 for Sri Lanka!
Another hot place - will they never learn

Watch for the travels of my eBid Tee & cap again in equatorial climes!

Thinks - should I add the woven beanie hat & or the shopping bag containing something heavy

On 2nd. thought - better not - if I want any goodies brought back.

Sounds too hot for the beanie hat but I like Meebo's idea of the empty shopping bag and I will look forward to the photos too.

Went to Sri Lanka in the early 90's, one of the best holidays I have ever had. I would recommend a visit to Sigiriya. It is a bit of a strenuous trek and a little scary if they still have the spiral staircase fastened to the cliff to get up to see the cloud maidens, but well worth it. While I was there my friend and I hired a taxi for 4 days, cost about £120 each but that included hotels for 3 nights and we got to see plenty of the island. A train trip to Galle is also a great day out, then there's the elephant orphanage and Kandy. And did you know that the bridge on the River Kwai was filmed there?

Shall look forward to seeing the reports

My father was stationed in Ceylon at the end of WW2 - his ship was on the way to Burma when VJ day was declared - and stayed for 6 months. I have his photos somewhere ..........

Many thanks - will pass this info on! Cheers.

And - thanks all for your interest - I have the empty eBid shopping bag. Good idea!

PS - I'm after a native stringed instrument from there if they can find me one!

I would like a native instrument too - stringed or not.

No, seriously, joking apart - it's great to get instruments from the places you have visited.
You won't believe this, but my daughter bought and had shipped back to UK a great big didgeridoo from OZ.
We all have a go on it when we meet up - the sound is awesome!
JR bought a magnificent Spanish acoustic guitar when we were on holiday many years ago, and our friend bought a mandolin!

Like many others, we eagerly await the pics of bro's travels - so enjoyed the last ones!
Do wish him bon voyage from your eBid pals!

Here's a link to the gadget I'm hoping for. It's called a "Ravanahattha"
Although the Indians have claimed it as their instrument, it originates in Ceylon!

Hey Tropical - I find the vacuum cleaner hose or a lump of PVC pipe works a treat for a didge! Also, the pipe can be cut to length to tune it to a key!!!
