OH built prototypes of the Focus and his advise is to steer clear of a 1.6 auto as it is gutless where as a 1.8 auto has the power.

For a 10 year old car you will always have some issues.

£995 seems a tad expensive for it.

Need a better spec for price though as there are so many variations of the FF

They received good reviews here in the US and the price is about twice what you posted. Do you have things like "car fax" there to get the history of the vehicle, to make sure it hasn't been in any major accidents?

The only other information I have is this:

    Type: 1.6
    HPI Checked: Yes

No further information has been given, however we do have a system available where we can check the history of the car but OH forgot to take the registration number of the car

I have an ancient Focus estate.........but it's not an automatic.

Hand on heart, it's the best car that I have ever bought.....and it dosn't owe me a penny!

According to my mechanic, the old Focus' were the best all round family car that were ever made........and the 1.6i manual version can certainly "shift" when it needs to (insert ashamed grin here).

My daughter has a "52" focus 1.4 and we use both cars as work horses!

I think a 10 year old car with 4 previous owners would make me sit up and take notice (warning bells perhaps)
Try and find out the history of the car.

Seems less than the average number of owners in 10 years for an English car.

I agree. The danger with a used car is that it may have been in an accident that weakened some part of the structure and makes it unsafe, might not be anything obvious. I would make a trip back to get the registration and check it out.

Will they let you take it to a mechanic to have a quick look? Dealers in the US will..just did that today for my daughter who is getting another car.
