I guess selling auto parts on here isnt a good thing to do. Cause I got one part for sale with no views or bids.

I don't know about selling but not a lot of success buying. Just been trying to source routine service parts (filters, plugs, blades, etc.) and nobody is selling. I can't buy what people are not offering. Ended up back at <spit> eBay.

I can gain access to over 100,000 car parts. 1 problem, I just have no idea on a very fast way to get them listed. the suppliers use a book system with computer back up (rather than other way round) Selling them would get me a 10% - 15% mark up minimum. Paul needed to change the engine mounts on the car Rednosty gave us, ebay cheapest price just under £120 for 2 of the 3 my supplier price £84 for all 3

Astral (post #4), it is not commercially viable to sell low value service items such as filters, wiper blades, etc., online. By the time you take into account storage costs, cost of money tied up in stock, cost of time taken to manage stock physically, time taken to pack and to keep accounting records, payment provider costs, etc.it is simply not worth trying to sell such items. The situation is made worse by the fact that on one auction site people are allowed to list for 99p for no charge which has had the effect of lowering selling prices for such items.

It is probably true that the sale of such low value items is also not commercially viable in bricks and mortar stores but takes place to keep customer loyalty so that customers will also buy higher value items.

The you have a lot of emails to write as hundreds of sellers are clearly not as smart as you and are clearly deluding themselves and headed for ruin. You had better wise them up.

Most of the items I wanted are coming via eBay sellers, the spark plugs are coming from Guernsey via an online retailer, and the pollen filter direct from the manufacturer in Germany. All ordered online at good prices - less than I could buy for locally, even with postage taken into account.

Selling the odd filter or spark plug isn't worthwhile but selling a selection of items or multiples might be.As Robert says the costs of insurance, storage and packaging etc plus,if you are doing it on ebay the high poopal and ebay fees make it uneconomic.
The exception is for the classic car market where rarity tends to push prices up.

Your talking of someone with eBid as a sole selling outlet. I'm talking of people that sell parts as a business - where the likes of eBid and eBay are just an additional sales outlet. Of course it would not be viable for someone like me to stock the range and quantities that would be needed just to sell on here.

I thought you ran your own shop (unless I am mixing you up with someone else) and that selling here was just an adjunct to that. So how would someone selling parts online as an addition to their main business be any different? How do all the sellers on eBay and other sites manage it?

I'm talking about selling single items,it's not really worthwhile how ever you do it if the items are low value/limited profit.Filters, spark plugs etc are usually loss leaders and the money is made on oils, fluids and spares etc that are often bought at the same time.
