Thread: How's he doin' this?

Ya can't give free shipping on a 99 cent item. Impossible. Maybe tried to start a flurry of activity by starting bids at 99 cents and hopes it will go higher? But evrey sale would mean a loss of $3 or so. Not a good way to run a business!

I am not sure that media mail allows records to be shipped at the reduced rate.

As delta said, it's probably working on the assumption that multiple bids are almost guaranteed so the price will go up and push him into profit, even after the postage cost is deducted. It's a gamble that rarely pays off on the smaller auction sites. Free postage is the carrot to get the bidders in.

In the past i have listed things at 0.01 with free shipping, mainly its to get people looking in my store, these listings normally get about 30 hits over a 7 day period and mostly get bid up to a break even figure.

LPs, 45s, 78s, Cassette Tapes, CDs and DVDs all qualify for media mail. We've shipped LPs by media mail, but it's cheaper to use First Class for anything under ten ounces.

Thanks to all your advice I've done some research into international shipping. As items come up for "repost", I will be adding the UK!
    Thanks from across the pond!

I couldn't get in either. Then I tried ebid.net and it worked.
Had to make a new "favorites" link.

Right - I'm in now. I managed to link from home last night. Most fo the stuff I'm most interested in is still listed on US only, ut hopefully will become available over the next couple of days.
