If they are going under a generic category heading such as 'Needlework' that is fine - we want people to find the categories easily
In UK is tapestry the same as needlepoint?

Haven't a clue - I presume so and that Needlepoint is the US term.

Certainly here we have knitting patterns but cross-stitch charts - viva la difference

Just looked, Needlepoint as its own category with no sub categories so is 1500 items with no splits. mmmmmm. I really think this is tapestry/needlepoint and should be under our broad sub cat NEEDLEWORK TOO.

How did they separate tapestry and give needlepoint its own sub cat?

... cos the Needlepointers got in first?

...oh yes, and the last time I looked there is cross-stitch mixed up with the Needlepoint - don't know if it was someone's choice or they could not find another category or an error...

So another fine kettle of fish. We must also request Needlepoint be moved under the NEEDLEWORK sub cat and then it would have all the sub cats that tapestry has, supplies, etc. It only makes sense.

A bit more change, but it will be messier if we leave it. Will lose customers who don't see all the wool and canvas under tapestry.

OK, slight change, ebid has Needlepoint as its own sub category but with no breakdowns under it. Has 1500 items, yet tapestry, same thing, is in the sewing/embroidery category!!! Yikes.

    4. Under the new subcategory EMBROIDERY (CHANGE TO NEEDLEWORK) would be the following sub sub categories:

    Cross stitch
    Embroidery
    Needlepoint/Tapestry

THIS MEANS THAT NEEDLEPOINT HAS ITS OWN SUBCAT and SHOULD BE CLOSED AS MOVED UNDER NEEDLEWORK. IT IS A DUPLICATION OF THE SUB SUB CATEGORY TAPESTRY WITH EXACT SAME THINGS IN BOTH.

    Cross stitch:
Accessories (hoops, needles, frames) (CHANGE TO SUPPLIES)
    Floss
    Fabric (even weave)
    Finished pieces (CHANGE TO COMPLETED)
    Kits to stitch
    Other
    Patterns (not books)
    stamped cross stitch

    Embroidery:
Accessories (hoops, needles, frames) (CHANGE TO SUPPLIES)
    Floss
    Fabric (even weave, linen)
    Finished pieces (CHANGE TO COMPLETED)
    Kits to stitch
    Other
    Patterns (not books)
    stamped embroidery

    Tapestry: (CHANGE TO READ TAPESTRY/NEEDLEPOINT)
Accessories (needles, frames) (CHANGE TO SUPPLIES)
    Canvas
    Finished pieces (CHANGE TO COMPLETED)
    Kits to stitch
    Other
    Patterns (not books)
    Wool/floss

I think this is the latest based on information that we got so far. Keep the ideas coming.

What happens when a change is made is that all the items are now in wrong categories, so a bit of a mess for people to go in and change their categories. That happened to me when I asked for women's hankies to be added as men had hankie cat already. When it as added, my hankies were all listed as clothing, vintage 1950s, or something and had to switch over.

But we have to weigh the inconvenience against losing sales because no one realizes there are two needlepoint/tapestry, or that embroidery is under sewing, etc.

Well goodnight to our UK members, we will chew on this a bit and surprise you in the morning.

yes, it is the same thing. And I still say that completed items don't belong in the craft category.

Bringing this one of yours back to the front again

'Completed' is totally different from all the 'to be done' crafts.
